Rising UMBC men’s soccer senior Levi Houapeu and Reading United AC progressed all the way to the Premier Development League semifinals this past weekend before falling to the Portland Timbers, 2-1. Levi scored the lone goal for Reading in the 74th minute when Charles Sapong sent a ball into the middle and Houapeu ran onto it about 15 yards out and beat the keeper. Levi added an assist in the third-place game, which Reading fell to Baton Rouge, 3-2 in penalty kicks. He played in eight games in total for Reading over the summer.

Houapeu, the reigning NCAA leading scorer, and the UMBC men’s soccer team open their 2010 season against VMI at the UMBC Soccer Stadium Thursday, Sept. 2 at 4:30 p.m.
