Vote for UMBC Lax Players in America East Fans’ Choice Player of the Year

UMBC lacrosse’s Kyle Wimer and Mike Camardo from the men’s team and Kate Quick and Erika Braerman from the women’s team have been nominated for the America East Lacrosse Fans’ Choice Player of the Year!

Camardo, a long-stick midfielder, ranks second in the nation with 3.2 caused turnovers per game, and he also leads the Retrievers with 38 ground balls on the season. The team captain was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2009 America East Championship after earning All-Conference Second-Team honors in 2008.

Wimer leads the Retrievers with 30 points on 12 goals and a team-best 18 assists, ranking fourth in the conference with 1.8 helpers per game. The midfielder and team captain was an Inside LacrossePreseason First-Team All-American after earning an honorable mention nod in 2009, and he was recently named one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. Wimer was also tabbed to the America East All-Conference First Team last season.

Voting for the America East Men’s Lacrosse Fans’ Choice Player of the Year runs through the end of the day on Wednesday, April 28.

Quick, the 2009 First-Team All-Conference goalie, has anchored a UMBC defense which has allowed the second fewest goals in the America East this season, ranking 14th in the nation with an 8.79 goals-against average. Quick also leads the Retrievers with 34 ground balls and ranks second with 15 caused turnovers.

Braerman is UMBC’s top scorer this season, as she leads the Retrievers with 29 goals, 21 assists and 50 points. She ranks second in the league in points per game and third in assists, and her 21 helpers are tied for the fifth-best single-season total in school history.

Voting for the America East Women’s Lacrosse Fans’ Choice Player of the Year runs through the end of the day Thursday, April 29. The winner will be announced via AmericaEast.com on Friday, April 30.
