Retriever Alumni Update – Oct. 29, 2009

A busy week for the Retriever Alumni Update, as two former lax players and three former basketball stars were in action.

Colorado Lacrosse Showcase

Ok, so not really a professional event, but two former men’s lax stars competed for the Denver Outlaws against the University of Denver in the inaugural Colorado Lacrosse Showcase. At the end of the third quarter the college team was leading 13-12, but the Outlaws scored three times in the fourth to win 15-13. Drew Westervelt scored a game-high seven goals, while Brendan Mundorf tallied a hat trick and added an assist.

Professional Basketball

Former Dawg Darryl Proctor continues to have a very strong showing in Denmark, as he was once again named MVP for the 109-103 home loss to Næstved last Sunday. Proctor led the team with 28 points while adding eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Bears return to action Thursday when they face off with Horsens IC.

Down in Slovenia, Elektra Esotech took down PRO-TEK Zasavje 73-72 on Saturday, with former Retriever Andrew Feeley scoring 16 points grabbing four rebounds in just over 29 minutes of action. Feeley leads the team averaging 18 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Elektra faces Šentjur Saturday.

Over in Japan, Mike Housman and Toyota Tsusho improved to 2-0 on the season with a 70-67 win over Kagoshima Renova last Sunday. Housman played 23 minutes, scoring 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while earning 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards.

As always, if you know of any former Retrievers playing in professional or semi-professional leagues around the world, please email tfenster@umbc.edu and we’ll start tracking them. Thanks for reading.
