Retriever Alumni Update – Sept. 17, 2009

This will be a pretty short update this week as just one former Retriever was in action. We’ll also let you know where former UMBC basketball stars have gone to begin preseason training.

United Soccer League – Division I

Former Retriever Matt Watson continued to a string of starts for the Carolina RailHawks, as he featured for all 90 minutes in a 2-1 victory over the Puerto Rico Islanders. Watson has now played in 17 matches this season with Carolina’s season coming to a close Friday night at home against Montreal.

International Professional Basketball

With a short update this week, we thought we’d let you know about where some of UMBC basketball’s former stars are headed to play this fall.

Darryl Proctor, fresh off an America East First Team All-Conference nod, is headed to Denmark to play for the Bakken Bears, while Cavell Johnson recently left for Portugal to play for the Illiabum Club. Mike Housman, who played in Germany last year, has moved to Japan to play for the Toyota Tsusho team.

The UMBC Dawg Blog will be providing coverage throughout their entire seasons and we’ll try and get a hold of them to see what its like playing overseas.

As always, if you know of any former Retrievers playing in professional or semi-professional leagues around the world, please email tfenster@umbc.edu and we’ll start tracking them. Thanks for reading.
